Weight, stability and space

The weight is what gives stability during use, but also what makes it difficult to take the piece to the bathroom to clean it. Between five and ten kilos is usually a reasonable balance point.

Think first about where it will be stored: horizontally, on cloth, with nothing on top and in a dry place. TPE deforms if compressed for weeks.

Fixed or interchangeable member

TPE is softer and cheaper but porous: it requires complete drying and renewing powder. Silicone resists better, is sanitized with less effort and lasts longer.

Water-based lubricant in both cases. Silicone degrades the surface of both materials with repeated use, and oil is also not compatible.

Cleaning and conservation

Wash after each use with warm water and neutral soap or Toy Cleaners & Essentials product, paying attention to the joints. Dry completely and apply renewing powder if it is TPE. Weight, size and space

Weight is the first decision and the one that most affects daily use. Below three kilos the piece is manageable and can be stored in any closet. Between three and eight it gains stability and realism and begins to need its own place. Above eight, the piece does not move with one hand and storage becomes part of the purchase.

The space is not only for storing it, but also for cleaning and drying it, which with these measures requires a bathroom with some clearance. It is the point that is most underestimated by those who buy their first piece of this type.

Fixed or interchangeable

Models with a fixed member are simpler and more stable, and those with an interchangeable connection allow you to change size and shape without purchasing another entire piece. The counterpart of the interchangeable system is the joining point, which is the area that gets the most dirty and the one that must be checked during each cleaning.

If the piece is for varied use, the interchangeable one performs better in the medium term. If it is for a specific use, the fixed one has fewer failure points.

Cleaning and conservation

The channels are rinsed with warm water until it runs clear, washed with neutral soap or specific cleaner and dried inside with absorbent paper or a rod. Incomplete drying is the number one cause of odor and material deterioration.

Afterwards, a thin layer of renewing powder restores the dry feel. The piece is stored in a fabric case, horizontally and without weight on top, away from direct light and heat sources.

What distinguishes one model from another

Four things: the weight, the material, whether the member is fixed or interchangeable, and whether the part includes additional channels. Of those four, the weight and material are the ones that are noticed daily; the other two expand the use but do not change the basic feel.

The exterior finish varies greatly from price to price, and although it is the first thing you see in the photo, it is not what the experience decides. A torso with a simple finish and good material performs better than a highly detailed one with rigid material.

As a reference, for a first torso the reasonable thing is a piece of three to five kilos, with a fixed member and good quality silicone or TPE.
