The three details to look at

Where the waist is worn

A garter belt sits at the natural waist, the narrowest point of the torso, above the hip bone. There the anatomy holds it alone. If it is placed on the hip, there is nothing to prevent it from rotating and the straps from pulling diagonally, which is the real cause of the sock's seam ending up crooked.

That is why the size is chosen by waist circumference, not by clothing size. And that's why wide band models, 8 cm or longer, stay in place better than narrow straps.

The number of strips

Four strips is the functional minimum: one in front and one in the back per leg. Six or eight distribute the tension, keep the seam straight and prevent the stocking from falling when sitting or crossing your legs. If you hesitate between two models, the one with more straps is a better purchase.

That the straps are adjustable in length is equally important, because the distance between the waist and the edge of the stocking varies greatly from one person to another.

The clips

This is where most cheap Garter Belts sexy break down. The clip must have a metal frame with a rubber or silicone button. The all-plastic clips open on their own with movement and tear the stocking as they do so. A gorgeous lace garter belt with plastic clips will last a night.

With or without rods

##How it fits well

Put on the garter belt first and adjust it around your waist so that it doesn't move when you turn. Then raise the stockings to mid-thigh. First fasten the front clips of both legs, then the rear ones, and finally adjust the length of the four straps until they all have the same tension, without pulling on the edge of the stocking.

The correct tension is the one that holds without visibly stretching the fabric. If the edge of the stocking is pointed towards the clip, there is too much tension and that is where the run will appear.
