Swimwear

A bikini sexy is chosen for two things that are almost never highlighted on the sheet: the percentage of elastane and the type of lining. The cut and the print decide the style, but those two pieces of information decide whether the garment lasts one season or three.

The two pieces of information that matter

The elastano should be between 15% and 20% of the fabric. Below 12%, the garment becomes deformed after just a few uses and stops regaining its shape when it comes out of the water. Above 22%, it compresses more than is comfortable. The best for salt water and chlorine is Lycra Xtra Life type elastane or similar, which resists much more than the standard.

The forro determines if the fabric shows through when wet, which is the classic problem with light colors. A full lining on the bottom and lined cup on top does the trick. Without lining, virtually any light shade becomes translucent as soon as it enters water.

Cuts and what each one does

  • Triángulo. Adjustable neck and back straps. It adapts to different breast sizes and is the most versatile, but it does not provide real support from a C cup.
  • Bandeau. Strapless, ideal to avoid marks. Needs firm bottom band or it slides.
  • Con aro o copa moldeada. Real grip. The sensible choice for C cups and above.
  • Braguita alta. Lengthens the leg and supports the waist. It is the cut that has gained the most ground and also the most comfortable.
  • Braguita brasileña o de tiras. Minimum coverage. Support depends entirely on the fit of the side straps.

The one-piece bañadores sexy, with a deep neckline or side slits, give the same visual effect with more support and are the best option if you are going to move, swim or spend the day outside.

Size, with water in mind

Here's a surprising detail: the bath fabric relaxes when wet. A garment that is comfortable and somewhat loose in the dry will clearly be loose in the water.

The rule of thumb is to choose a tight but non-marking fit, knowing that it will work. If you are between two sizes and the fabric has a good percentage of elastane, the smaller one is the correct choice. Also check that the side straps have at least two adjustment positions, because that is where everything is corrected.

What destroys a swimsuit

It's not salt water or chlorine, although they help. These are three specific things:

El calor. The dryer and prolonged direct sun break down the elastane fibers irreversibly. Always dry in the shade and horizontally.

Las superficies rugosas. Sitting directly on the edge of a pool or on rock wears out the fabric on the back. A towel in between solves the problem.

Dejarlo mojado en una bolsa. Concentrated chlorine continues to act on the fabric for hours. Rinsing with fresh water as soon as you leave is the gesture that extends the life of the garment the most.

Hand wash in cold water with neutral soap. Never twist: press between a towel.

Combine

Sarongs and beachwear pair well with pieces from Bodysuits, and for everyday underwear in similar fabrics, the range is in Lingerie Sets 1 and Lingerie.

The cuts, compared

The cut decides the coverage and support, and with them what the garment is really for.

Bandeau Medium Stocking with removable strap Avoid brands
Cup with ring Medium High Big breast
High panties High High Checked silhouette

Pieces from the same take-out-of-water family are in Lingerie Sets 1 and Bodysuits.

Frequently asked questions

What percentage of elastane is appropriate?

Between 15 and 20% on polyamide. Below 12% the garment gives out after a few weeks and stops regaining its shape.

Why does lining matter?

Because it prevents transparency when wet and gives structure. A full bottom lining is the difference between a one-season garment and a multi-season one.

What size should I order?

The usual one, assuming that the fabric gives a little with water. If you are in doubt between two, the smaller one in very elastic models and the older one if it has a ring.

What ruins a swimsuit?

Chlorine, sunscreen with oil, the heat of the dryer and leaving it rolled up wet. Rinsing with cold water after each bath prevents almost everything.

How do you dry it?

Spread out in the shade, never hung by the straps or in direct sun, which deforms the elastane and discolors the print.
