Denier explains transparency

The denier measures the thickness of the thread. Below 15 the average is practically transparent and delicate; between 20 and 40 there is a comfortable middle point; Above 60 it becomes opaque and warm.

The lower the denier, the easier it is for a race to appear. It is not a manufacturing defect: it is what a very fine thread implies, and it is compensated with care when putting them on.

Self-adhesive or with garter belt

The self-adhesive ones have a silicone band on the thigh and stand on their own. They work well if the size is correct and the skin is clean and without cream in that area, which is what makes them slip the most.

The classic ones require a garter belt, they hold better throughout the night and allow the height to be adjusted. If you hesitate between the two, the wide band of self-adhesive is the one that marks the least and holds up best.

How to get the size right

Size is calculated by combined height and weight, not just your usual clothing size. Almost all packages include a table with this double entry.

If you are between two, choose the largest: a tight stocking breaks faster and squeezes the thigh. In large sizes, look for a wide silicone band, which distributes the pressure and does not leave a mark.

The denier and what transparency it gives

Between twenty and forty you get a medium transparency that is suitable for almost everything. From sixty onwards, the stocking is opaque and warm.

A low denier can break with a fingernail or a ring, so it's worth always having a spare pair if you're going to wear them outside the home. It is not a defect of the product: it is what that finesse implies.

Self-adhesive or with garter belt

The self-adhesive ones have a silicone band on the upper edge that adheres directly to the skin. They are the most comfortable and quickest to put on, and they work well as long as the band is clean and the skin does not have cream on it, which is what makes them slippery.

The garter belt ones need an additional piece but they hold better for hours and withstand more movement. They also allow you to change the stocking without changing the set, which is the practical reason why many people prefer this system.

How to put them on without breaking them

The stocking is gathered up to the toe with both hands, the foot is inserted and it is pulled up, unrolling little by little, without pulling on the edge. Most runs appear by stretching the stocking from above instead of spreading it down the leg.

Filed nails, rings out and dry hands. And if a small race appears, a drop of hairspray stops it and prevents it from moving further overnight.

Care and duration

Hand wash in cold water with mild soap, or machine wash inside a mesh bag on delicate cycle. Without fabric softener, which covers the elastane, and without a dryer, which shortens the life of any stocking the most.

Which type to choose

Classic thigh-high stockings are the most versatile and best match any outfit. The mesh ones give a more pronounced result and last much longer than a thin, low denier stocking, which makes them practical for repeated use.

The back seam ones require attention when putting them on so that the line is straight, and the high denier opaque ones are also suitable for everyday use outside of the lingerie context.
