The difference between the chest circumference and the underbust circumference determines the cup: about thirteen centimeters correspond to a B cup, eighteen to a C, twenty-three to a D, and so on.

If the band goes up the back, it is large, and if the underwires rest on the chest instead of surrounding it, the cup is small. The band should be horizontal and support most of the weight: the straps only help.

Fabrics and what to expect from each one

Elastic lace adapts, conceals and is the most appreciated on a daily basis. The satin is smooth and opaque, with a fluid drape, although it marks any seam you wear underneath.

The mesh and tulle are light and sheer, very flattering but delicate. Wetlook and vinyl have no elasticity, so they require exact sizing. And rigid lace, without elastane, is the least forgiving in measurements.

How to take bra size

With two measurements and a tape measure. The first is the contour under the chest, taken tight and with the horizontal tape, and gives the band size. The second is the contour of the chest at its widest point, without tightening. The difference between the two determines the cup: about twelve centimeters correspond to an A cup, sixteen to a B, twenty to a C and so on.

The most common mistake is wearing the band too big and compensating for it with a larger cup. The band is what holds eighty percent of the weight, so if it goes up the back or can be separated more than two fingers, the size is not correct no matter how much the cup seems to fit.
