Use water-based Lubricants exclusively. Silicone lubricant degrades most sleeve materials, and oil-based products break them down faster still. Water-based also rinses out completely, which matters because anything left inside a sleeve is a hygiene problem.

Apply inside the sleeve as well as to yourself, and reapply during use rather than pushing on when it dries. Warming the sleeve in warm water first makes a considerable difference to how lifelike it feels.

Cleaning: The Part That Decides How Long It Lasts

Most sleeves are porous, which means they cannot be sterilised and must be cleaned properly every single time.

Rinse thoroughly with warm water immediately after use, turning the sleeve inside out if the design allows. Use a Toy Cleaners & Essentials or mild unscented soap, rinse until no residue remains, then dry completely. Damp is what causes mould in a stored sleeve, and it is the single most common reason a masturbator gets thrown away.

Air drying takes longer than people expect, often several hours. A drying stand or standing the sleeve open-end down speeds it up considerably.

Once dry, dust TPE and elastomer sleeves with cornflour or renewing powder to restore the soft, non-tacky surface. Never use talc. Store away from direct sunlight and not pressed against other toys.

Choosing Your First

Buy a mid-range cased stroker or a compact rather than the most textured or most expensive option. Start with moderate texture and moderate tightness, because you can always go more intense but an overwhelming sleeve gets used once.

Buy a large bottle of water-based lubricant at the same time. You will use more than you expect.
