The detail that almost no one mentions: the length of the torso

Here's the real reason a babydoll fits badly when it does, and it doesn't appear on any size chart.

A one-piece garment has a fixed length between shoulder and crotch. If your torso is longer than that measurement, the garment pulls down on the neckline and up on the crotch, and is uncomfortable even if the chest and hip contour are correct. The solution is not to go up a size, which widens without lengthening: look for models with adjustable straps, which are the ones that absorb that difference, and be wary of those with fixed straps if you know you have a long torso.

Before purchasing, measure from the shoulder, across the front of the chest, to the crotch, and compare it to the total length measurement if the listing includes it.

What to look for depending on the fabric

Stretch lace adapts and forgives size differences, and is the safest option if in doubt. Tulle and mesh are lighter but have less recovery, so they mark more. Satin has no elasticity of its own unless it contains elastane, so the size must be exact. Models with an underwire or molded cup provide real support and are the best option from C cup.
