Why does it last so long?

A lubricant base silicona is composed of long chain silicones, typically dimethicone, cyclomethicone and dimethiconol. They are large molecules that are not absorbed by the skin and do not dissolve in water. That's why the slip remains constant for much longer than with an aqueous formula, which evaporates and thickens as it passes. In practice, a water formula may need two or three reapplications where a silicone one needs none.

That same water resistance is what makes it the only truly functional option in the shower or bathtub, where a watery lubricant disappears in seconds.

The silicone on silicone rule

This is the point that causes the most problems. Silicone lubricant reacts with the surface of silicone toys and degrades it: a sticky feel appears, the surface becomes porous and the toy becomes unusable. The damage is progressive and is not always noticeable after the first use, which means that many people discover it late.

There are two practical exits. The first is to use Water-Based with any silicone toy. The second is to place a condom over the toy, which completely isolates the surface. With glass, stainless steel and ABS there is no incompatibility and you can use silicone without reservation.

In long sessions, because there is no need to interrupt to reapply. In the water, where it is the only base that holds. Quantity, withdrawal and bedding

It makes a lot more than it looks, so start with a small amount, the size of a coin, and add only if necessary. Since it does not dissolve in water, it cannot be removed just by rinsing: you need warm water and soap, with some friction. On fabrics it leaves an oil mark, so a towel underneath and washing at high temperature afterwards is advisable. In the bathtub the floor becomes slippery, something worth keeping in mind before getting up.

How much to apply and how to remove

With a silicone base you need considerably less product than with a water base. A few drops cover and stay put, and over-applying leaves a slippery feeling that's uncomfortable and difficult to correct halfway through.

To remove it, water alone is not enough: you need soap, because silicone repels water. And for bed linen, a towel is advisable underneath, since silicone stains require washing with detergent and sometimes they do not come off completely the first time.
